World Music Day celebration @MITVGS Kothrud

The students of MAEER’s Vishwashanti Gurukul School, Kothrud celebrated World Music Day on Tuesday, 21st June 2022, with great zeal and enthusiasm. The celebration began with the opening speech by the Music teacher, Ms. Shaswati Nag, a trained vocalist from the Kirana and Gwalior Gharana of Hindustani vocal Music. She talked about the contributions of Indian musicologists in shaping the present form and theory of music. Further, she spoke about the therapeutic side of music by explaining the healing powers of the Indian ragas.

The event was anchored by a very dynamic student from Grade IX, Arnav Pradhan who mesmerized the audience with his brilliant stage presence. The opening act was a tabla solo performance by Yash Vijapure from Grade IX, a very promising budding artiste. His performance consisted of an impeccable presentation of ‘teentaal’. He executed the content with good clarity and accuracy.

The final and concluding act for the event was vocal music performance by the students. The students were lucky to have their History teacher, Mr. Vinayak Wadekar as an accompanying artiste on the synthesizer and Yash Vijapure on the tabla for the vocal music performance.

The song was a Rabindra Sangeet written and composed by the Bard Rabindranath Tagore, ‘Bissho Shaathe Joge Jethae Bihaaro’. Composed in Raag Bhairavi, this song carries the ethos of the world Music Day. This was the first performance of a Tagore song by these students and thus this remains a special and memorable moment for both the students and the faculty. The students’ performance reflected their passion and dedication for music. The event would not have been a success without the support of the Principal, Mrs. Sharada Rao. The students, parents and teachers truly enjoyed the event.
